A developer’s plan to revive a stretch of Lincoln Avenue is one step closer to becoming reality.
The condo building at 2518-2540 N. Lincoln Ave., between Wrightwood Avenue. and Altgeld Street, will be torn down in March 2016 to make way for Baker Development Corporation’s Lincoln Centre, developers told community members Tuesday.
The planned mixed-use luxury residential and commercial development will offer 200 residential units with rents ranging from $1,600 to $6,000 a month, a parking garage and retail space. The Lincoln Centre construction should be finished by the summer of 2017, DNAinfo reported.
Development has been a contentious issue in Lincoln Park, with the proposed Children’s Memorial Hospital redevelopment causing controversy. But after listening to feedback from residents and 43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith and revising the plans accordingly, the Lincoln Centre project has won the support of Ald. Smith and the Wrightwood Neighbors Association. The City Council and the zoning board approved the new plans last month.
“We hit it out of the park when it came to coming up with tremendous improvements over the previous plans,” Baker told DNAinfo.
